In coordination with the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC), the Ministry of Education UAE launched a new program wherein nature conservation will be taught to the school children through the flagship species houbara bustards. Houbara bustards is a large bird of bustard family found in North Africa.
The houbara and its conservation programme was an initiative of Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Many prominent personalities have applauded this initiative of his which is linked to heritage, history and natural environment of the country. The ‘Conservation Education: Houbara Model National Programme’ will be introduced in a few selected schools initially in this academic session and later to other schools too.
The teachers will have a specially designed handbook and can access the website too for all material they would require to sensitize the students from primary to grade 12 about environment and the need for its conservation.
